Our Philosophy
Anyone can learn the technique the Pros use, it’s easier to play like they do than any other way. When your technique is sound, hitting the ball will feel easier. Let physics work in your favor by learning how to use your kinetic chain to create power and trust your instincts. Many people try too hard to hit the ball hard and try too hard to aim the ball. Trusting your instincts brings better results than trying to force it. Like walking, you aren’t thinking; ”Put my right foot down and left hand forward”, you just do it naturally. I’ll teach you how to ‘feel’ your way through your strokes so it’s instinctive and not mechanical. If you’re not getting it, I’ll find another way to explain it to make it click for you. Everyone is different but everyone can ‘get it’.
You can put your own flare on your strokes but the fundamentals are the same: Contact out in front, Swing, Feel with the hands, follow through, Power comes from swing speed, not muscling the ball. Tension in the grip gets you nowhere. Footwork and positioning are vital but if you’re hands are relaxed you can hit balls even when you’re out of position.
Unlearning is harder than learning so if you’ve been playing a certain way for a while I will work with you to maximize your potential. It’s your choice. Whether you want to start from scratch, improve your game or just play for fun to keep fit, I can tailor lessons to suit your needs.
When it comes to kids, I keep them moving and engaged, but I’m also meticulous about them learning good technique. I keep group lessons small(5 or less). My biggest pet peeve is seeing coaches teaching large groups with kids standing in line, barely getting a chance to hit the ball.
There are many imaginative ways to avoid lines, keep it fun and learn all sorts of tennis skills.
